Authors and National Novel Writing Month: 4 Good Reasons NOT To Do NaNoWriMo

We’re approaching the second half of October, and that means one thing in the writing world: everyone is going crazy about National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo.

Today, I wanted to talk about why I’m not doing it, why it’s okay if you don’t want to do it, and what are the wrong reasons to undertake the challenge.

(Don’t worry, I don’t intend to be a negative Nancy. Wednesday’s post will be about the right reasons to do NaNoWriMo, because there are many. It is a wonderful program, and it inspires many, many writers.)

NaNoWriMo happens every November. If you aren’t familiar with it, National Novel Writing Month means tens of thousands of people start writing on November 1 with the goal of finishing a novel (or at least 50,000 words of one) by the end of the month.
